Protecting Our Children: The Importance of Delaying Smartphone Use

As a parent, I am deeply concerned about the impact of early smartphone use on children’s development.

Studies show that excessive screen time can have significant detrimental impacts on mental health, attention spans, and social skills. That’s why I support the Wait Until 8th campaign, which encourages families to delay giving children smartphones until high school. By fostering a culture where kids can experience childhood without the pressure of constant connectivity, we can give them the opportunity to grow up healthier and more present in their relationships.

I believe we need to start important conversations about tech use and its effects on childhood development. Delaying smartphone access is just one piece of the puzzle. I’ll work to create educational opportunities for parents and schools to discuss the benefits of less screen time and more face-to-face interaction.

As a community, we can help our children thrive by ensuring that their early years are dominated not by screens but instead by opportunities for meaningful connection and development.
